Highway Kicks on Route er... N2?
Road Tripping the Garden Route
Every so often I'll do one of these: just a collection of pictures from the places I've been. These are from my 3-week drive through the Garden Route in South Africa. I met all sorts of people, all of them warm, friendly and welcoming. South Africa is a beautiful country and definitely worth a visit if you ever get the chance.
This guy ran the hostel I stayed at in VicBay. He's a 60 year old retired surfer with an encyclopedic knowledge of 60's jam bands. We stayed up all night listening to Rodriguez and Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Super cool dude.
Brother Zeff is part of the Knysna Rastafarian community, the largest in SA. I loved his open, expressive face and so took his portrait.
These ladies said I looked like Jackie Chan so before taking their picture I said "1-2-3 Jackie Chan!"
This guy was watching my car for me in Graaff-Reinet, in-land in the Karoo. In SA, you normally pay a few Rand to car minders whose job it is to deter theft (although this didn't turn out so well in Mozambique).
Morbid, but I liked the painted advertorials that are prevalent all over SA.
Kids hitching a ride on the local "school bus" in Coffee Bay, on the Eastern Cape
These guys were watching us hit golf balls into the ocean, near a place appropriately called Hole in the Wall in Coffee Bay
Experiencing the world and loving every second of it.
